“One size fits all” does not apply to shipping. Many items to be transported require specialized equipment to ensure goods arrive at their destination safely.
At C&M Transport, our fleet of vehicles consists of various types of shipping trailers and heavy haulers to better serve our clients. Our trucking company is based in Painesville, Ohio, and has locations across the United States. We have garnered a reputation for providing premium service throughout the continental United States, and our specialized equipment services contribute significantly to that reputation. What Is Specialized Equipment?
Specialized freight is a type of transportation service used to move specific goods and materials, such as hazardous items, oversized loads, and temperature-sensitive products. Transporting these items safely and efficiently requires experience in handling and shipping and the use of specialized equipment.
To better accommodate clients from various industries with different hauling needs, C&M Transport deploys a wide range of specialized equipment and trailers. The specially designed trucks and trailers our drivers operate include:
This large vehicle features a flat body with no sides or roof around the bed. The flatbed truck is most commonly used to transport heavy loads that won’t be compromised when exposed to inclement weather.
A dry van and a flatbed trailer combined into one piece of equipment, a curtain-side trailer features a ceiling, front wall, rear doors, and curtains. These curtains hang from the roof on each side of the trailer and can be opened to allow access for loading.
Drop Deck Trailers
With drop deck trailers, the floor drops down after it clears the tractor unit. The lower deck allows for hauling taller loads than a regular straight floor flatbed.
Step Deck Trailers
With no sides, roof, or doors, a step deck trailer closely resembles a flatbed truck. However, it has two deck levels, offering three main advantages that standard flatbed trailers cannot — more height, easier maneuverability for forklifts, and equipment diversity.
As the name suggests, this trailer’s deck is extremely low to the ground, providing the ability to transport extra-tall cargo and loads up to 12 feet tall. A lowboy trailer features two separate drops in deck height, one directly after the gooseneck and another right before the wheels.
Why Is Specialized Equipment Necessary?
Specialized freight is an essential part of the freight trucking industry, making the need for specialized equipment equally important. The following details show the crucial role specialized equipment plays in shipping and logistics:
More Efficient Loading
One of the most overlooked components of transporting goods is loading. Items must be strategically loaded onto a trailer to ensure safe travel. Depending on the type of item being transported, loading can be difficult unless you use the proper trailer. Because of the vast assortment of equipment at C&M Transport, we are easily able to load your cargo, regardless of its contents.
The goal with every shipment is not only achieving the fastest delivery time possible — items should also be delivered safely to arrive in the condition promised. Using the right equipment and trailer helps reduce the risk of accidents and damaged cargo. Our team closely evaluates every client’s freight to determine which specialized equipment should be used to ensure the safest travel.
Delays can be crippling in the freight trucking industry. Even just a single day can make all the difference when it comes to transporting goods and materials. The proper specialized equipment can help reduce delays, making certain cargo arrives at its destination in the promised timeframe.
